“If there ever were dreams that were lofty and noble, These were my dreams at the start, And the hopes for life’s best were the hopes that I harbored down deep in my heart. But my dreams turned to ashes, my castles all crumbled, my fortune turned to loss. So I wrapped it all up in the rags of my life and laid it at the Cross and He made Something Beautiful, Something Good...” (“Something Beautiful” words and music by Bill & Gloria Gaither)

As a young man in Stow, OH, Roy Tremble never dreamed the day he heard this song being “pitched” to the Cathedrals by Mr. Gaither, that it would one day describe his life. Roy had a dream to sing Southern Gospel Music, ever since as a young boy he first heard Rosie Rozell sing “Oh, What A Savior”. In the mid 1960s he attended the Stamps-Baxter school of music and won a talent contest there. That led to him being asked to join a trio called the Lancers.

From there over the next few years he sang with such groups as the Rebels and the Weatherfords. In 1971 he joined the Cathedrals as their baritone singer, and not very long afterwards when they discovered the awesome range he had, he moved to the tenor position. He was living his dream as he won 4 Dove awards and had 3 Grammy nominations. Roy was with the Cathedrals until 1979, helping to mold the sound that became the standard for the Cathedrals still today. He was introduced by George Younce on the “Cathedral Reunion” video as one of the finest tenor singers in gospel music.

Shortly, after leaving the Cathedrals in 1979, Roy began to see the “dreams turn to ashes” both personally and professionally. He has seen what it is like to face the hardship of losing everything important to him, including his dreams for the future. He knows the anger, bitterness and depression this can cause. He knows the feelings of failure that can lead you to consider choices, that before would have never crossed your mind.

Often, in his testimony, Roy relates the story of playing Superman as a young boy. He tells of jumping from haylofts and of riding his bicycle with the towel he used for a cape flying in the wind behind him. He also tells of hitting that “dip” in the road that sent him sliding on gravel for several feet and the gravel that became embedded in his legs and body. Then he shares how his mother, who had told him not to be riding the bike so fast, instead of scolding or spanking him, took him up in her arms and gently wiped away the tears and the blood and “picked the gravel” out. He then shows through his music and testimony, how our Gracious Father will “scoop us up and pick the gravel out” when we play Superman in our lives and hit the “dips in the road”.

Roy’s focus with his music and ministry is to reach others who have faced or are facing these battles with the message of God’s love and forgiveness and God’s power to heal the brokenness you feel in these battles. He shares a message of God’s restoring power to take what ever problem you have and make “Something Beautiful” if you are willing to lay those things at the Cross. He will encourage those listening to forgive others, as well as, ask forgiveness for themselves from a loving Heavenly Father.

Over recent months God has opened the doors for Roy to share not only his music and his testimony but also in seminars and other ministries dealing with forgiveness and restoration.

Below are comments from a few people who have been a part of services with Roy or who had contact with him in his ministry.

“You spoke to the hearts of many and all were touched by your ministry...”
Rev. Alexander, West Broadway Baptist Church, Louisville, KY

“I had listened to Roy’s tape and I knew we would enjoy a good concert. I did not, however, know how much Roy’s testimony would minister to our hearts.”
Rev. Mickey Grambrell, First Baptist Church, Pelzer, SC

“After listening to Roy’s project “Mending Broken People” I know that this is a message that needs to be heard by many hurting, broken people today, both lost and saved.”
Mark Ferguson, host of syndicated radio show “Sunday In The South”

“We are thankful that we had the opportunity to have Roy share his ministry with us and would encourage others to include him in their schedules.”
Frank Dooley, Minister of Music, Forrestville Baptist Church, Travelers Rest, SC

“Your singing and sharing from your heart touched more lives than you realize. As you shared what God had given you for our audience many were blessed. It was a joy to work with you and watch God minister through you.”
Gwen Hall, producer “NiteLine”, Dove Broadcasting Inc.
